Gloucester Road

Gloucester Road is one of the old roads leading out of Painswick.

West side:
1, Chestnuts, 3 Marrans, 5 and 7 Glenmore were built about 1970.
Painswick House, just off the map, was built in 1738.
The Lodge at the entrance to Painswick House was built 1824.

East side:
2, 4, 6 and 8 Gloucester Road were built about 1930. At that time, they were known as "3, 4, 5, and 6 The Council Houses" and ten years or so later as "Sandrigo, 4, 5 and 6 Gloucester Road". They formed a small group of six Council houses - the first in Painswick. Two of these houses now have addresses in Canton Acre. In about 1950, they were renumbered to "1, 2, 3 and 4 Gloucester Road. They were renumbered again in about 1970 to "2, 4, 6 and 8" when "1, 3, 5 and 7" were built on the other side of the road.
Numbers 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 were built in the middle or late 1950s. Until about 1970, they were not numbered, but had names instead. These were Park Edge/Park End, Twineham, Annford, Kerris, Kalomo, and Allington respectively.
Hillfoot Cottage, just off the map, was built c1840.
